What changed—and what is only reported

Western Rye received three rapid launch-day cycles through August 27. This ledger keeps developer-announced changes separate from player reports and outcomes we have not independently reproduced.

Patches are landing, but “fixed in notes” is not the same as “resolved for everyone.”

Day 1–3 notes now name V-Sync, UI, collision, mission progression, multiplayer invites, Sarah's Bag visibility, open-world pickups, friend item sharing, crafting balance and display stretching. That is meaningful movement, but it is still a list of developer statements. Update first, then verify the exact action that blocked you.

Launch issue ledger

Filter by evidence class. JavaScript only changes visibility; the full ledger remains in the page.

Developer note

Multiplayer invites

Day-two notes say sending invites to multiple friends was fixed. This does not cover every join crash, persistence or shared-item interaction report.

Developer note

Mission progression

Day-one notes name `A Roof Against the Wind`; day-two notes mention mission 6 and `Towns Many Hands` dialogue.

Developer note

V-Sync and tearing

V-Sync was named in day-one fixes. A day-two note also says it can be enabled in settings to stop tearing.

Developer note

UI / inventory

Launch notes name general UI fixes and a shaky inventory screen fix; exact affected states are not documented.

Day 3 note

Sarah's Bag and pickups

The note says Sarah's Bag was made more visible and an open-world pickup glitch was fixed. Exact location and universal reproduction remain separate questions.

Day 3 note

Friend item sharing

The note says players can again pick up items dropped directly by friends in co-op. Host/guest persistence is not documented.

Day 3 note

Crafting and placed furniture

Recipes and required material quantities were rebalanced; the new Demolition Hammer can pick up and move placed furniture. Exact acquisition and recipes are not published.

Day 3 note

Display, crosshair and smearing

The note names clearer crosshair visibility, resolution-scaling fixes and a potential camera-smearing fix. Hardware-specific outcomes remain unbenchmarked.

Pre-Day 3 report

Pickups and shared items

Launch reports described hatchet, quest-item and co-op pickup failures. Day 3 addresses the category; current-build retesting determines whether a specific case remains.

Player report

Small quest / tutorial text

Multiple launch comments criticize readability. No official accessibility patch statement was located in this pass.

Player report

Horse steering

Some reviews describe difficult or inconsistent turning. Hardware, input device and build conditions are not controlled.

Player report

Heavy foliage performance

One current Steam review says foliage-heavy areas can drop frames on Steam Deck Low. This is a single-device observation, not a benchmark.

Unknown

Sarah's Bag exact location

Day 3 names a visibility improvement, but no official coordinate, landmark image or guaranteed reset path is published.

Unknown

Vendor purchase failures

A nails/vendor report exists, but there is not enough independent evidence to classify the cause or scope.

Patch timeline

  1. Early Access goes live

The developer states that two day-one patches/hotfixes had already shipped.

  2. Collision, UI, V-Sync and progression

Named fixes include collision, UI behavior, V-Sync, `A Roof Against the Wind`, and world/environment props.

  3. Invites, hands, mission 6 and inventory

Named fixes include multiple-friend invites, disappearing hands, mission 6 progression, `Towns Many Hands` trader dialogue and shaky inventory. The note does not publish a player-facing build number.

  4. Quests, pickups, crafting, co-op and display

Named changes include Sarah's Bag visibility, open-world pickups, friend item sharing, crafting quantities, furniture movement, crosshair visibility, display stretching, collision and minor performance work.

Before you call an issue fixed

  1. Confirm Steam finished updating. Record the time, not an assumed patch number.
  2. Test the smallest reproducible action. For co-op, join and exchange one disposable item; for quests, verify object, prompt and progression separately.
  3. Separate a workaround from a fix. V-Sync or an empty inventory slot may reduce a symptom without resolving its root cause.
  4. Check whether a later note supersedes the report. Day 3 changed Sarah's Bag, pickups, friend sharing and recipes; older advice must carry that boundary.
  5. Report conditions, not just frustration. Include input device, solo/co-op, host/guest role, prior save or new save, and what happened after reload.
